Kumon is an after-school math and reading enrichment program that ranges from preschool through high school level work. It is focused on self-learning and daily practice. The Kumon Method uses individualized, incremental worksheets, where students start at a comfortable level and advance at their own pace, attending the Center once or twice a week, studying at home on non-class days.

Key Aspects of the Kumon Method -

  • Individualized Instruction: Students work at their own pace to master concepts before advancing, rather than following a fixed grade-level curriculum.
  • Self-Learning: Worksheets are designed to be completed with minimal instruction, promoting independent thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Daily Practice: The program emphasizes small, manageable amounts of daily work to build strong study habits.
  • Focused on Mastery: With practice on each new concept, students complete worksheets with high accuracy and speed, ensuring they fully understand a topic before moving on.

Programs Offered -

  • Kumon Math: Develops skills from counting and basic addition to advanced algebra, trigonometry, and calculus.
  • Kumon Reading: Improves skills from phonics and basic sentence building to critical reading comprehension.

Structure -

  • Placement Test: A free assessment determines a student’s starting point in the program(s) to ensure success and boost confidence while developing a daily study habit routine.
  • Center Attendance: Students typically attend the center once or twice a week, working on assignments while being observed.
  • Home Study: The remaining days of each week, students complete their daily worksheet practice at home.

Key Benefits -

  • Advancing Beyond Grade Level: Long term study in Kumon means students are eventually studying material years ahead of their current school grade.
  • Building Soft Skills: The program is designed to foster discipline, focus, time management, and self-reliance.
  • Confidence: Students develop a "can-do" attitude toward challenging subjects.
